Introduction
This Special Airworthiness Information Bulletin provides you, owners
and operators of Bombardier Model CL-600-2C10 (Regional Jet Series 700,
701 & 702), CL-600-2D24 (Regional Jet Series 900), and CL-600-2D15
(Regional Jet Series 705) airplanes with guidelines for inspecting the
body fairing seal common to the MLG inboard doors.
Background
Bombardier issued an All Operator Message (AOM) No. 494 advising that
an operator recently experienced a left MLG-up landing. Following
preliminary findings of the event, it was observed that the MLG inboard
door edge was in contact with its mating body fairing rubber
seal/internal metallic stiffener, possibly due to improper rigging.
This condition could potentially result in contact with the MLG door
and could restrict movement of the MLG during extension.
Bombardier has issued Service Letter CRJ700/705/900-SL-32-039, dated
December 23, 2008, to provide operators with guidelines for inspecting
the body fairing seal common to the MLG inboard doors at the next
convenient maintenance opportunity (i.e., 72 hours or 100 flight
hours). Bombardier is continuing the investigation into the subject
event and will provide more formal guidance in the near future. At this
time, the airworthiness concern is not an unsafe condition that would
warrant airworthiness directive (AD) action under Title 14 of the Code
of Federal Aviation Regulations (14 CFR) part 39.
Recommendations
The FAA strongly recommends that the affected operators comply with
Bombardier Service Letter CRJ700/705/900-SL-32-039 at the earliest
opportunity.
