Introduction

This Special Airworthiness Information Bulletin (SAIB) is to inform registered owners, operators, and maintenance personnel of the airplanes referenced below of an airworthiness concern regarding the aft left and right side ledge divider light.

At this time, the airworthiness concern is not an unsafe condition that would warrant Airworthiness Directive (AD) action under Title 14 of the Code of Federal Regulations (14 CFR) Part 39.

The following Cessna Citation airplanes are affected:

Cessna Model Citation Applicable S/Ns
560XL Excel 560XL5001 thru 560XL5372
750 X
750-0001 thru 750-0221
750-0223 thru 750-0224

Background

During a flight on a Cessna Model 750 airplane, a burning smell was noticed in the passenger compartment. A passenger discovered a pillow, which was wedged against the aft right side ledge divider light, had been singed and was the source of the burning smell.

After further inspection, it was determined that a higher wattage (p/n 1308) bulb was installed in the aft right side ledge assembly than was recommended in the Interior Maintenance Manual and the Illustrated Parts Catalog. Cessna had also sent out Service Bulletin SB750-33-16 (for Model 750) and SB560XL-33-02 (for Model 560XL) to recommend installation of a lower wattage bulb (p/n 301). In this case, the higher wattage bulb was installed after the service bulletin was performed.

Recommendations

The FAA recommends that owners, operators, and maintenance personnel of Cessna Model 560XL and Model 750 airplanes with the above serial numbers ensure that Cessna p/n 301 bulbs have been installed in the aft left and right side ledge divider light assemblies per Cessna Service Bulletin SB750-33-16 (for Model 750) and SB560XL-33-02 (for Model 560XL). If Cessna p/n 1308 bulbs are found to be installed in this location, replace the bulbs with p/n 301 bulbs.
