Recommendation

The FAA recommends that owners and operators inspect the elevator and rudder control surface hinge halves for proper part forming if parts were replaced after February of 2001. Figures 1, 2, & 3 show examples of incorrectly formed hinge halves. These examples exhibit thinning, necking, and possible cracking. If hinge halves are found with theses forming deformities, then the hinge halve or hinge assembly needs to be replaced. The manufacture has not issued any service information on this condition.
